Lithuanian literature at the Conrad Festival

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Lithuania regaining its independence. On this occasion, thematic programming dedicated to the literature of our northern neighbours will hold a special place in the programme of the 7th Conrad Festival. This is the first presentation in Poland of such scope about this corner of literary Europe that is still unknown but so close!

Conrad Festival Programme Announced!

Nearly 150 guests, approximately 100 meetings and a rich variety of accompanying event series: for the seventh time, guests from Poland and abroad will descend upon Krakow to take part in the Conrad Festival on October 19-25, 2015. This year’s slogan will be “Against the Current.” The light of the lighthouse, which the town hall at the City of Literature’s Main Market Square turns into each year, will shine soon.

We have good news for all in the world of Polish literature! The Krakow City Council has ratified the Conrad Award city resolution and has decreed the formulation of a grant programme supporting the cultural activity of bookstores. During a heated discussion in the Krakow City Hall, members of the city council also discussed a resolution asking Poland’s Parliament to proceed with the Book Bill.

Jonathan Franzen – one of the most important American novelists, Hooman Majd – a cult Iranian-American writer, Wiesław Myśliwski – the double winner of the Nike Literary Prize, and Hanna Krall – a legendary Polish reporter are the first guests of the 7th Conrad Festival. This year’s most important literary event in Central Europe will take place in Krakow from the 19th till the 25th of October. 

The 4th Miłosz Festival

The 4th Miłosz Festival kicks off on May 14th. The 2015 edition of this great poetry festival will run under the theme A Book of Luminous Things. This is the English title of the famous anthology published by Czesław Miłosz in the United States in 1996. This year unique poetic insight will be provided by twenty poets from Poland and abroad during a rich and varied program of debates, panels, concerts and exhibitions. The Festival, in addition to its main program, will also involve add two additional coinciding events: a literary program for children Miłoszek and a series focused on Japanese culture and Haiku. The festival will end on May 17.
